Ugly Shakespeare! We are excited to be hosting The Ugly Shakespeare Company on Tuesday, March 10.
'The Complete Works' was staged at Chingford Park a couple of years ago and was hilarious and an excellent introduction to Shakespeare. While technology changes, the influence Shakespeare has had on modern English is still relevant - some examples are listed here:
"In a pickle" (The Tempest): To be in a difficult or messy situation.
"Wild goose chase" (Romeo and Juliet): A hopeless or confusing pursuit.
"Break the ice" (The Taming of the Shrew): To overcome social awkwardness.
"Love is blind" (The Merchant of Venice): The idea that we don't see the flaws in those we love.
"Heart of gold" (Henry V): To describe someone who is genuinely kind.
'The Complete Works' will bring hundreds of characters to life in this epicly riotous production. Covering timeless classics, and some of the Bard's lesser known productions, there will be something for every learner no matter where they are on their Shakespearean path.
The cost is $6.30pp and this will be applied to all accounts. We could not offer experiences like travelling performances without the support of whanau, but no one will miss out if finance is an issue. We do hope you'll support us if you can so that we can continue to offer such experiences.
There is also an opportunity for a small number of students to attend a workshop afterwards. If you would like your child to engage in the workshop please fill in the form linked here by Wednesday 4 March - if we are oversubscribed we'll do a ballot.
