Road Safety in NEV

Every year we send a reminder out to whanau around road safety. North East Valley is particularly tricky in the mornings and afternoons with only one main route in and out. Our students are definitely old enough to walk independently some, or all, of the way to school, and we ask that you consider not adding to the traffic by bringing students all the way to the gates.

In particular I have been out looking at a real hazard this morning around using Glendining Avenue as a turning bay. It was a cyclist that came and asked me to have a look at the issue, and in the five minutes that I was standing watching I saw a number of people turn here before dropping students at DNI. While it's not strictly against the rules, it is creating an unnecessary hazard for cyclists.

If you are driving students to North East Valley in the morning could you please consider dropping them off further away from school so that you are not bringing additional cars onto North Road.

This week you will receive a hardcopy invitation to participate in a Social Media Study, conducted by Ted Ruffman of the University of Otago. The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between social media use and children’s wellbeing and social understanding. The study has received ethical approval from the University of Otago Human Ethics Committee.

Participation is obviously completely voluntary. We are simply disseminating the information for the University.
