About Us

An introduction to Dunedin North Intermediate, the philosophy and teaching approach to middle years learning.

Happy Girl

Thank you for your interest in our school. Dunedin North Intermediate is dedicated to providing each child with an excellent educational experience during the two years of attendance.

Dunedin North Intermediate is purposefully committed to excellence in middle years education with paramount focus on the “holistic educative role.” That focus often leads us to be the innovators. This school builds on the fine work of “contributing schools” providing for individual learning in these vitally important middle years.  Ensuring learners establish personalised, transportable learning skills for use in secondary, tertiary and LIFE situations.  The school’s personalised learning programmes utilise learning styles, teacher expertise, teaching styles while challenging, facilitating and extending the individual learner.

Throughout it’s seventy five year history the school has successfully focused on developing the whole person including, academic, personal, community, cultural and physical learning dimensions.  The corner stones of this success remain, high quality teaching, caring and supportive relationships, outstanding environments and resources that are safely maintained and enriched programmes that benefit student learning.

Academic excellence is expected of all and established through an integrated curriculum that is enriched by teacher expertise and specialisation.  In our unique modules programme children experience a broadened and enriched curriculum that enables teacher to teach in curriculum areas they feel passionate about.  In home rooms, selection of student preferred learning  mode and teacher styles facilitate children to learn in the ways they prefer and experience teachers who prefer to teach in that way.

Consequently the enriched experience of Dunedin North Intermediate focuses on learning in all domains.  The school expects and requires responsible and respectful commitment from all who attend.  As educationists, ours in first and foremost an educative environment, where “restorative practices” grow people who are, active participants, who conduct themselves ethically and responsibly in their life.  Our ultimate test is creating citizens who contribute positively.

We look forward to meeting, communicating in plain English and working in partnership for the benefit of your child and their learning.

Ka kite ano,

Ross Leach
